Metro to host Nature in Neighborhoods grant workshops

Workshops to assist potential applicants in securing funds from 2006 voter-approved bond measure

This week Metro will host two free grant workshops for its Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants program. Interested parties can attend workshops on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Beaverton City Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. or on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Metro Regional Center from 9 to 11 a.m.

Metro hosts grant workshops to explain the selection criteria and help applicants create the strongest possible application. Participation in the workshops is optional, but highly recommended. Please RSVP to Kristin Blyler at 503-797-1834 or Kristin.Blyler@oregonmetro.gov.

Funded by a 2006 voter-approved bond measure, $3.3 million in capital grants have been awarded since 2008. Metro’s Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants provide funding for innovative projects that improve the ecological functions of neighborhoods and enrich people’s experience of nature as a fundamental element of their community’s character and livability. Successful grant applications in the past have helped restore creeks, expand parks and acquired land to preserve native habitats.

Along with capital grants, the Nature in Neighborhoods program sponsors restoration and enhancement grants which support hands-on activities and environmental education programs that protect and contribute to watershed health in the region. New this year, a small number of grants will be awarded for planning and project development. Metro will host a grant writing workshop for these grants on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Metro Regional Center from 9 to 11 a.m. Applications are due in mid-January.
