Metro, Drive Less Save More, Burgerville announce winners of Nutcase Helmets design contest

 

Design contest with more than 400 entries promoted biking and bike safety

Nutcase winnersMetro Councilor Rex Burkholder and Burgerville representatives announced the winners of the Nutcase Helmets design contest on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Hawthorne Blvd. Burgerville. A panel of judges, including representatives from Burgerville, Metro, Nutcase Helmets and Work for Art, joined KGW meteorologist Matt Zaffino, an avid cyclist, to select eight winners from the more than 400 entries.

Metro congratulates the following winners:

  • Youth grand prize: Ellie Gentry, Portland
  • Youth first place: Finn Jackson, Vancouver, Wash.
  • Youth second place: Anna Liem, Portland
  • Youth third place: Quinna Hadley, Portland
  • Adult grand prize: Gabriel Warila, Portland
  • Adult first place: Amy Levy, Portland
  • Adult second place: Mary Ann Foy, Portland
  • Adult third place: Karla Zirbes, Portland

Grand prize winners in each category will have their custom helmets made by Nutcase Helmets and receive a $50 Burgerville gift card. All other winners received a Nutcase Helmet and a $25 Burgerville gift card.

"It was wonderful to see so many creative entries and people supporting Drive Less Save More's mission," said Burgerville president and CEO Jeff Harvey. "This partnership was a natural fit for Burgerville. Metro's vision of sustainability and livability aligns with our commitment to thriving communities."

Metro's Regional Travel Options program improves air quality and reduces car traffic by encouraging people to drive less and use travel options such as walking, biking, taking transit, vanpooling or carpooling. 

Reducing the number of cars on the road cuts vehicle emissions, decreases congestion, extends the life cycle of existing roadways and promotes healthier communities.
